Details

The moat-encircled temple was constructed in 1595 and is typically Kandyan in its architecture but with significant Buddhist influences. Important not only for religious reasons, but also for its political significance, the location of the Tooth Relic once determined who held power in the kingdom. Explore this elaborate, incense bathed temple in the company of a knowledgeable local, witness local Buddhists coming to make puja (offerings and prayers), and learn more about Kandy, its festivals, and the Royal Palace from its days as Sri Lanka’s last kingdom.
